Biography

Matthew Jenkins Jaroszewicz is thrilled to be the Director of Orchestras at the University of ÐÔÊӽ紫ý School of Music. He recently concluded an eight-year tenure with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, during which he served as Assistant Conductor and Associate Conductor under the late Gerhardt Zimmermann before taking over as Music Director in the fall of 2024. Alongside his work in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, he is entering his ninth season as Conductor of the Canton Youth Symphony Advanced Orchestra.  
 
He has conducted symphonies of Vaughan Williams, Mahler, Elgar, Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, DvoÅ™ák, Price, Hanson, Hailstork, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Borodin, Beach, and more. He has had the privilege of collaborating with Grammy Award winners Garrick Ohlsson, Terence Blanchard, and Dashon Burton, along with many other top-notch soloists. He served as Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Apotheosis Opera in New York City from 2014 to 2017, where he led productions of operas by Wagner, Puccini, and Richard Strauss.  
 
Matthew received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Brown University and his Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting at Mannes College of Music, where he studied under David Hayes. Off the podium, Matthew enjoys singing, skiing, swimming, cycling, running, and triathlons, and is a devoted baseball and football fan. He lives in Cleveland with his husband, author and accountant Andrew Teague McCollister, and their dog, Pappy.
